Dr. Caitlin (Ondera) Freeman grew up in Elgin, Illinois. Her love for animals began at a very young age when she decorated her bedroom with puppy wallpaper and played “veterinarian” with all her stuffed animals. She began volunteering at animal shelters as a teenager and worked as a veterinary assistant during her college years. Dr. Freeman received a Bachelor of Science Degre in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 2013. She was later accepted to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2019.
Over the years, Dr. Freeman has developed a strong interest in wildlife and exotic pets. Prior to veterinary school she worked at PetSmart to learn more about exotic animal husbandry, and she spent three years volunteering at the University of Illinois Wildlife Medical Clinic during veterinary school.
Dr. Freeman also has an interest in shelter medicine and has participated in spay and neuter days with several animal shelters throughout Illinois, as well as traveling to North Dakota with the Rural Area Veterinary Services to provide care to underserved animal populations. Dr. Freeman’s other veterinary interests include soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. She is excited to further develop her skills in these areas as a member of the Blue Springs veterinary team!
Dr. Freeman currently resides in Independence, Missouri with her husband, Adam, their two dogs (a beagle named Lucy and a German shorthaired pointer named Archer), a bearded dragon, and a Russian tortoise. Dr. Freeman hopes to someday own a large property where she can continue to grow her animal menagerie. After dealing w cavanaugh and oak grove I was devastated that I couldn’t find a vet I truly loved, then after getting our frenchie from petland, we had a deal for using this vet. I have a 3 pound, full grown chihuahua so I understand that some doctors can see her as annoying, but she is the calmest, loving, mamas girl. Dr. Freeman is the only vet I have found it the past 3 years that makes me (and my pups) feel important. She let me hold my pup while evaluating her and that was very important to me bc clearly my girl was nervous. She also never made me feel like a crazy dog mom. To her it was probably another normal vet visit, but to me I felt so relieved that I found someone that genuinely cared about my dogs. I love the way she spoke to me & her attitude towards my dogs (esp my psycho frenchie). So - for anyone who has looked for a vet that feels safe, caring, and respectful, I 100% recommend Dr. Freeman!!
We got our new puppy Theo on May 13th and brought him to see Dr. Freeman. She was absolutely wonderful with our new puppy! Then, 8 days later we got Theo’s brother from his litter and made him a part of our family...we welcomed Freddie and took him to meet Dr. Freeman. Not only was she so excited to meet Freddie, she remembered details about Theo! So excited she will be looking over the puppies!
Very professional atmosphere with a lot of care and gentleness! Trusted this veterinary facility; doctors and faculty with all our pets. Recently taking our yorkie pups Liko and Lehua, for their shots and checkups along with preparations for travels. Dr. Freeman is a kind and informative doctor who truly cares for her clients and their owners. Her assistants have been wonderful and show much kindness to our pups. We highly recommend them for your animal care! We drive a distance for this professionalism and will continue to have them assist us with our little additions to our ohana! Mahalo nui loa!
I am so grateful for our first experience with our new puppy. What a great first impression. From all of my calls prior to appointment, first impressions of front desk staff, vet tech, and Dr. Freeman. I am so glad we found you all for the care of our rottie puppy. Thank you for going above and beyond.
